It was revealed at San Diego’s Comic-Con International that a recurring cast member will be returning in a new role to Legends of Tomorrow. Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who became a fan favorite as Amaya, will play a British character named Charlie, per the Legends cast-and-crew panel.

Sellers started on the show in its second season, portraying Amaya who took on the identity of Vixen for the show and was also the grandmother of the modern-day Vixen familiar to fans of the CW’s DC line-up. Maisie’s run as Amaya came to an end with the finale of season three, but showrunners had it in mind to bring her back due to the actor’s immense popularity.

Of her new character, which plays to her real-life English background, Richardson-Sellers said, “She’s a rebel without a cause. She’s on her mission.” She added, “She goes on a journey of self-discovery. She’s been locked up as long as she can remember.”

The plan, as reported from San Diego, is for Charlie to be tied to the magic portal the Legends unleashed, and when the team first meets her they have no idea if she is a friend or a foe. If she has spent much of her life behind bars then she may play both sides and have to earn the trust of the Legends if she joins them.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

The Waverider has another vacancy.

During the season 3 finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the Legends escaped to the Wild West, where they were faced with a number of Mallus-possessed villains from past episodes. But Zari sent out a distress call to a number of friendlies, leading to an assist from a now-married Jax, a heroic Kuasa, who is the new Vixen, a Wonder Woman-esque Helen of Troy, and Sara’s on-again girlfriend Ava.

Damien Darhk, meanwhile, sacrificed himself to save his daughter, taking her place as Mallus’ vessel. Ultimately, the team combined the powers of the totems to create a being of light that would take on Mallus. In a cheeky nod to Ghostbusters, the being took on the form of Beebo, who vanquishes Mallus. But Constantine interrupts the Legends’ celebration with news that this is only the beginning, that letting Mallus out of his cage opened the world to more supernatural threats. Season 4 tease alert!

By hour’s end, Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) decided it was finally time for her to fulfill her destiny and return to her village. However, EW can confirm that even though Amaya has left, Richardson-Sellers is not leaving Legends. She will continue as a series regular next season. Whew.

But there appeared to be a real exit during the hour as Rip (Arthur Darvill) sacrificed himself to buy the Legends time to escape from Mallus at the top of the hour. Darvill was a series regular throughout the first two seasons, but was only a recurring castmember this year. It’s unclear whether we’ll see him back next season in some capacity, considering the Legends are time travelers.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is expected to return this fall on the CW.

The CW has renewed 10 of its current series, the network announced Monday.

The renewed series are: “Arrow” (Season 7), “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (Season 4), “Legends of Tomorrow” (Season 4), “The Flash” (Season 5), “Jane the Virgin” (Season 5), “Riverdale” (Season 3), “Supergirl” (Season 4), and “Supernatural” (Season 14). In addition, freshman shows “Black Lightning” and “Dynasty” have been picked up for second seasons. Specific premiere dates for each series will be announced at a later time. The network will make decisions on their originals “Life Sentence,” “Valor,” “iZombie,” and “The 100” in May.

“As The CW expands to a six-night, Sunday through Friday schedule next season, we are proud to have such a deep bench of great returning series for 2018-19,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz. “By picking these ten series up for next season, we have a terrific selection of programming to choose from when we set our fall schedule in May, with more still to come. And I’m especially happy that we’ll continue to work with the incredibly talented casts, producers, and writers who create the series our fans are so passionate about.”

The network announced back in February that they will launch a two-hour Sunday primetime block for the 2018-19 broadcast season, expanding its linear lineup of original programming from five nights a week to six.
