The story takes place in a futuristic setting where a young girl, Sam, is observed by her social worker, Jess, after the girl’s mother has been arrested to serve her daughter’s “crime time” of 60 days. On day 24, Jess reveals it is the end of the 5 year cycle meaning they must plant special beans in order to continue having oxygen.
